This was an extremely fun shoot I had the pleasure of directing for Taylor James. We shot the spot in Buenos Aires in order to get lush green grass in January and take advantage of the local talent & crew there. The pharmacy was a set build with all facets & features of the set designed in coordination with our art director Vera Arico. We used 2 dolly tracks to achieve the floating effect, one for the talent, and one for the camera. The park shot was done at Puerto Modero, a public park space in the heart of Buenos Aires. With the help of our DP, Marcus Hastrup, we timed our day to capture the Buenos Aires sunrise and get that magic hour backlight. And in the background, producer Ryan Nonaca, Kipp Christiansen, and Leandro Ekman kept everything running smoothly. Another fantastic production working with the Taylor James team!
BEHIND-THE-SCENES PHOTOS:
BEHIND-THE-SCENES-VIDEO: Here’s a video showing the double dolly setup we used to achieve the floating effect for the hero talent.
ANIMATIC: Below is the initial motion test I did in Cinema 4D in preparation for the shoot. Since we had a very tight 15 seconds to fit everything in, this animatic helped tremendously in timing out each of the shots, and making sure the footage we were getting would work well in the edit.
PRE-PRODUCTION DESIGN FRAME: These were renders I did for the treatment deck in order to help win the job.
TIME-LAPSE OF SHOOTING THE PHARMACY SCENE: I set up my Osmo Pocket on the floor of the set for a moving time-lapse a few times throughout the day. This was the only take where it wasn’t randomly moved by the crew, haha! (They like to keep things tidy on set)
CG MODELS: These are some of the CG models created and incorporated into the spot, all done by Stan Hebette:
SHOTLIST: This was the master shotlist used as the shooting boards for the spot. With such a tightly edited 15 seconds, where each frame is crucial for the timing, we wanted to make sure no details were missed. I like to make super detailed shotlists for every spot .
BROADCAST VERSION: And this was the version that went to air.
Thank you to all the peops at Energy BBDO in Chicago, it was an awesome shoot, and an unforgettable time in Buenos Aires! Looking forward to the next one!
